Perthshire business donates £42,000 to prostate cancer charities

The challenge raised £21,000 for Prostate Cancer UK and Stuart’s family business, JSR Services, decided to fund match this and donate their £21,000 to Prostate Scotland

Prostate Scotland was presented with a cheque for £21,000 donated by Perthshire business JSR Services Ltd, raised from a testing three-peaks into West Highland Way fundraising challenge over the summer.

Stuart Retson from Perthshire thought of the ‘Challenge 550’ which set the goal of completing 550 miles over 5 days, through cycling to the three peaks in the UK and climbing each of them, before completing the last 100 miles of the challenge hiking the West Highland Way. Stuart initially chose to raise money in aid of Prostate Cancer UK due to his father, living with incurable prostate cancer.

The challenge raised £21,000 for Prostate Cancer UK and Stuart’s family business, JSR Services, decided to fund match this and donate their £21,000 to Prostate Scotland, in particular their COMPASS project which supports men and their families in Scotland affected by prostate cancer. Stuart’s father, John, attended the charity’s Prostate FFIT programme in 2023 at St Johnstone and found it beneficial in helping him navigate his prostate cancer through diet and exercise. The family therefore wanted to give back and pay it forward to support other men.

Stuart said:
“I decided I wanted to do something that could make a difference. I set myself the challenge of travelling 550 miles in 5 days to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK and help support the fight against a disease that has affected my family personally. The name Challenge 550 represents more than just the miles. It marks the 5 years since my dad's prostate cancer diagnosis, and my 50th Birthday, with 550 miles completed over 5 days. I genuinely can't thank everyone enough for the donations, encouragement, messages and support throughout this challenge. Every single contribution has helped make a difference. It’s fantastic to share the £42,000 raised between two deserving prostate cancer charities.”
