Family call for price rises to protect the future of free range
Published on : 22 Apr 2022
The future viability of free range egg production in this country is under threat because the cost of producing them has risen but the price paid to farmers has not. This will have an impact now, but also long into the future, and that’s something that concerns the next generation of egg producers, such as Catherine, Christopher and Lucy Hinch who look after 216,000 free range layers and rear 80,000 chicks in Rutland.
They made this video to try and explain to consumers and retailers that change needs to come fast.
BFREPA has asked the country’s major retailers to increase the price of a dozen free range eggs by 40p, and organic eggs by 80p, with the extra money making its way to farmers.
