Statement on Housing Order Implementation in Wales
Published on : 11 Nov 2025
Wales has now joined England and Northern Ireland in implementing a housing order. This measure is being introduced to help prevent the spread of avian influenza by reducing contact between domestic and wild birds. The order requires all bird keepers to house their birds indoors or otherwise take appropriate steps to keep them separate from wild birds.“The British Free Range Egg Producers Association (BFREPA) welcomes and fully supports this decision. A coordinated approach across all UK nations is vital to protect the health and welfare of poultry and safeguard the livelihoods of egg producers. By taking this precautionary step, Wales aligns with the measures already in place in England and Northern Ireland, ensuring consistency in disease prevention efforts. BFREPA continues to encourage all bird keepers to remain vigilant, maintain the highest standards of biosecurity, and promptly report any signs of illness in their flocks,” said Gary Ford, Head of Policy and Producer Engagement at BFREPA.
